Burlingame Intermediate School Classroom Building Presentation

The building is designed to maximize natural daylighting into classrooms, while minimizing glare and solar heat gain. Windows and clerestories bring in abundant north light, while on the south, deep overhangs and fixed sunshades screen classrooms from direct light. Located in the coastal climate, the building optimizes mechanically assisted natural ventilation for cooling, eliminating the need for air conditioning. Upper level classrooms and hallways have venting skylights and clerestories to exhaust warm air, using stack effect cooling. The building uses 35 percent less energy than allowed by Title 24.
