Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kindergarten Important Announcements

Students who turn 5 between September 2 and December 2 are eligible for TK. The program this year is housed at two of our district's elementary schools--Franklin and Roosevelt. Transitional Kindergarten is a full-day program that runs Monday – Friday from 8:45 AM to 2:15 PM. Registration for the 2018-19 school year begins on February 6th and takes place at your home school.

Senate Bill (SB) 1381 (Chapter 705, Statues of 2010) amended California Education Code Section 46300, 48000 and 48010 to change the required birthday for admission to kindergarten and first grade and established a transitional kindergarten program beginning in the 2012-2013 school year. Again, this year and in all years hereafter, students who turn 5 between September 2 and December 2 are eligible for TK per Education Code 4800(c).

Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. It is required that students who are enrolled in the T-K program will complete the two year program.  Please see Board Policy 6170.1 - Transitional Kindergarten.
