Measure M Update/Work Continues Over Thanksgiving Break

As a part of our spring of 2016 long-term Facility planning process, we collected feedback from over 350 parents, staff, school site councils, and community members.  That data informed priorities for our Facilities.  The top three priorities from that process were:
Replace Aging Classrooms & Portables with New Construction
Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) / Food Service Improvements
Safety & Security
The Board of Trustees are using the proceeds from the Measure M Bond campaign to address our community's top priorities.  The governing board has directed staff to implement projects to replace rented portable classrooms with permanent construction; improve the learning environments of our MPRs and finishes in our food service kitchens; and advance Safety and Security for our campuses.

As a part of improving Safety and Security of our campuses the district has already added ID badges for staff, and added fencing and gates creating single entry points at all campuses.  As a next step, because of unique existing conditions, we are installing intercom call buttons at Franklin, Lincoln, McKinley, Roosevelt, and Washington Schools' entries.

We already keep gates locked during school hours, except those that allow entry to the school office (which, therefore, also allow access to the entire campus).  The new call buttons will allow the school to secure the front entry into the school.

These intercom call buttons and the signage are currently being installed.  We anticipate turning this on next year upon return from the winter break.

The entry signs are as follows:

Please use the intercom to gain entry during school hours
  1. Press red button, wait for instructions
  2. A team member will respond once available
  3. When asked, please stand in front of panel and identify yourself clearly
  4. After entry, please ensure the door is closed firmly behind you
If no response, we may be assisting others, please wait, then press red button again.
We are fortunate to have a supportive community.  Keeping our staff and students safe has always been, and continues to be, a priority of our district.

We thank you for your anticipated cooperation during this transition.  Your school's Principal will notify you via newsletter of the date your individual school will implement this safety measure.
