What is Transitional Kindergarten? Transitional Kindergarten provides children with the gift of time. It bridges the social/emotional and developmental focus of pre-school and the academics of Kindergarten. Students who enroll in Transitional Kindergarten will enter Kindergarten the following year. Who is eligible for Transitional Kindergarten? For the 2013-2014 school year, children who turn five between October 2 and December 1 may enroll in Transitional Kindergarten Where will the Transitional Kindergarten program be? The District Transitional Kindergarten program will be at Washington School. Depending on enrollment, a class may be opened at Lincoln School. Students will return to their home school the year following Transitional Kindergarten for Kindergarten. How long will the day be? The Transitional Kindergarten will be a half-day program from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The start time is staggered for parents who have students enrolled at other schools. My child doesn’t have a birthday between October 2 and December 1, but I would like to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten. Can I? Parents who feel that a Transitional Kindergarten program will be beneficial for their children born between September 2 and October 1 should enroll in Kindergarten but let your school know that you are interested in Transitional Kindergarten. There may be space available depending on enrollment and capacity. The program is not available for children who turn five on or before September 1. How do I enroll my child in Transitional Kindergarten? Enroll for Transitional Kindergarten at your home school. How can I more information regarding the TK program? Washington has a school tour scheduled for incoming Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten on March 22 at 9:00AM. An orientation fro TK parents will be held on May 16 at 7:00PM at Washington.
