Welcome to Burlingame School District’s Educational Services. We are proud of the educational program we offer our students. They are challenged to excel in the core subject areas as well as participate in a variety of educational opportunities that address their creative interests, their physical development, and their social needs.
Our highly qualified teachers ensure that all students meet or exceed the state’s adopted standards in English/language arts, mathematics, history/social science, and science. Individual students’ needs are met through the use of a variety of instructional strategies. The acquisition of skills, the application of knowledge to real life, and the ability to think critically are valued and provide the basis of a balanced curriculum and instruction for our students.
Equally valued in what is taught and learned in Burlingame are services provided by our specialists in their fields. Through collaborative efforts of the district and the Burlingame Community for Education (BCE), our students’ learning is enhanced by our physical education specialists, our music specialists, our English learner specialists, our reading specialists, our library/media specialists, and our special education services: special day classes, resource specialist program, psychologists, and speech therapists.
One only has to look at our test scores to see that our students are succeeding. However, we continue to analyze our assessment data to ensure that all of our students and subgroups are succeeding. We make instructional decisions using the state’s Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) data; district performance based assessments in early literacy, writing, and mathematics data; and daily classroom assessments based on students’ performance.
In Burlingame we focus on not just what students are learning, but how and why they are learning. We believe that our students are most successful when they take responsibility for their learning. We believe that our students’ learning is enhanced when it is connected to how they are a part of the school community, the community of Burlingame, and the community of humankind. Our students’ social and ethical development is paramount to their education in Burlingame. Students learn strategies to resolve conflicts, assist younger students in activities, and participate in school wide activities that give back to the community.
